TO THE CORE |
Roguelike Platformer
Development Time: 9 Months Team Size: 30 Students Development Year - 2018 Role - Technical Designer Engine - Unreal Engine 4 Game Overview To The Core is a Third Person Platforming game with the core design philosophy of the Roguelike applied. You play as Emily, an energetic inventors' daughter, with a huge robotic fist. The game features a juicy combat system, fast movement, a scripted automatic game camera, enemies, challenges and 3D procedurally placed chunks. Contributions I spent the majority of my time working on improving the player character mechanics, and the feel of moment to moment gameplay, though had I many other tasks that kept me busy as a generalist technical designer. I'm proud of what I delivered on this project and truly believe I made some great systems that could have made it into a published game. My proudest achievement from this project is the Game Camera. I was able to design and script it independently, at the same time as working on many other tasks, gathering feedback researching and iterating to develop a game camera that would support gameplay and make cooler actions available to lower skill players who aren't able to maneuver the camera as well. |
